1. The Records and Images
This website displays photographs of historical objects, artworks, archival records, Museum spaces, and publication covers. Copyright status and permitted uses may vary by item, photograph, or publication.
2. Ownership and Copyright
Ownership of a physical object does not automatically entail ownership of all rights in the work or its photograph. The original work, its photograph, text, and editorial material may each require separate assessment.
Relevant Greek and European law, including Article 14 of Directive (EU) 2019/790 on reproductions of visual artworks in the public domain, must be taken into account by the appropriate advisor. Digitization does not automatically create a new right in every case.
3. Review Status
Licenses or complete rights-holder information have not been confirmed for every image. Existing photographs are retained without arbitrarily assigning them a Creative Commons license, CC0, public-domain status, or a blanket "all rights reserved" notice.
Records have been catalogued for institutional and curatorial review. Once approved, creator, photographer, institution, rights statement, license, and reuse terms may be listed as applicable. No unrestricted high-resolution file download function is provided.
4. Reproduction and Attribution
Before reproducing or publishing specific material, please request clarification of its particular status. Follow the terms of any confirmed license and provide accurate attribution of creator and source. No blanket prohibition is imposed on uses permitted by law or on material confirmed to be in the public domain.
A rights-status statement is not the same as a license to use. No right is attributed to the entity that has not been documented.
5. Inquiries or Possible Misattribution
To request use, seek clarification, or report a possible rights issue, please cite the title of the record and its location on the site. Destination for written requests: [CONFIRMED RIGHTS/CONTACT EMAIL]. Until this is established, please call for the appropriate way to submit your request.
